Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure (70-291)

Length

5 days

Course Overview

The Windows Server 2003 Network Management MCSA/MCSE 70-291 course is designed to help students prepare for Microsoft exam 70-291: Implementing, Managing and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure. This class covers topics such as networking models, IP addressing and routing, classless subnet masking, client address configuration, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). In addition, the course details Windows Internet Name Server (WINS), Domain Naming System (DNS), Routing and Remote Access Services (RRAS), and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) services. Finally, students are taught to implement security templates, automate software updates, monitor and troubleshoot network activity, and LAN routing.

Course Objectives

After completing this course, the student should be able to:

  • Configure a DHCP server by defining a scope and superscope, create DHCP client reservations, and configure DHCP options
  • Manage a DHCP database by performing the following tasks: backing up and restoring, compacting a DHCP database and reconciling a DHCP database
  • Monitor a DHCP database by creating and viewing a DHCP audit log, create a DHCP performance baseline, view DHCP server and scope statistics, and create DHCP performance alerts.
  • Install and configure the Domain Name System (DNS)
  • Create an Active Directory - integrated zone, and explain the benefits of doing so
  • Use management tools to configure the DNS including Nslookup, DNSLint, and Dnscmd
  • Secure DNS objects in Active Directory directory service
  • Implement the principle of least privilege
  • Implement security baseline settings and audit security settings using security templates
  • Add or modify IPSec security policies using the IP Security Policy Management console
  • Determine when to use Active Directory directory service or local policies when deploying IPSec
  • Configure IPSec to use certificates
  • Use Netsh to manage and monitor IPSec
  • Manage SUS by synchronizing, approving and distributing update packages
  • Configure client computers to use SUS using Group Policy or the registry
  • Configure a Windows Server 2003 to act as a local area network (LAN) router
  • Configure and troubleshoot virtual private network (VPN) remote access
  • Manage routing protocols, routing tables, and routing ports
